Moenkopi Erosion - Arizona

Here a massive 40-50 foot (12 - 15 meter) boulder (the size of a small house) broke away from a Shinarump (hill) formation at the top of a cliff, rolled down and then came to rest on the softer Moenkopi formation at the bottom of the cliff. Over a great deal of time, the softer dirt /rock erodes (rain, wind…) away leaving a soft pedestal on which the harder rock rests and ironically seems to defy gravity!
