PHILANTHROPY, HUMANITARIAN WORK

Al·tru·ism: "altro͞oˌizəm", noun: the belief in or practice of disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others.

Philanthropy: (from Greek φιλανθρωπία) etymologically means "love of humanity" in the sense of caring, nourishing, developing and enhancing "what it is to be human" on both the benefactors' (by identifying and exercising their values in giving and volunteering) and beneficiaries' (by benefiting) parts.

I recently had an interview with a photography organization and was asked this question: "Would you tell us something unusual about yourself that not a lot of people know about?" ...

Well, I have been to sub Saharan Africa 4 times (once for over 4 months) and have a very special heart and profound concern for the countless orphans there.

My concern and connection to these precious kids came about through the lifelong involvement in an organization dedicated to the mental health,  well being and education of all people, young and old.  It is through this organization, Good Samaritan Ministries, based in Beaverton, Oregon where when I was a very young child, received love and support.  Throughout my life, I have continued to stay close and connected to this loving community of people who live their lives in the service of others.  It is by their examples that I hope to model my life one day at a time.

For approximately 20 years, I have been involved in helping over 2,200 kids, a lot of them orphans, get an education and thus, a better life. 

One of these children, now an adult calls me PAPA!  Even to this day we talk almost daily through What's App and encourage each other.  I had the chance to see Daniel in 2016 as I visitied Uganda.  No longer a small child, orphaned as a throw away, he is a strong courageous young man who finished trade school, works hard and helps care for others who were orphaned or abandoned.

Here is Muwanguzi Daniel Metternich as a little boy.  He is the boy you see me holding here (first picture).  It's a great honor that he has changed his last name to Metternich! In the second picture Daniel is a teenager and in high school.  It was so great seeing him grow.
